Invisalign®

Dr. Bruno certified with Invisalign in 1999.  He is not only a preferred provider but an Invisalign® patient!

Invisalign is a good choice when:

  • The orthodontic problem is one where Invisalign® can accomplish your goals.
  • You, or your teen, has the discipline to use the aligners as recommended.  This means that they are used at all times except brief removal for eating or tooth brushing.  Athletic mouth guards can be formed directly over aligners.
  • The treatment is designed, monitored and adjusted by an educated orthodontic specialist.  Orthodontic care, regardless of with braces or removable appliances, requires knowledge of the biology, mechanics, dynamics and limitations of the teeth and tissues around them.  If you have heard stories from others who had a poor outcome with aligner treatment, that does not mean that it is not possible for you to succeed.

Some things to know about Invisalign®

  • It is capable of treating many of the common orthodontic conditions.
  • Suitable for adults and teens.   Developmental treatment for young children is fairly new but shows promise in the near future.  Stay tuned!
  • Almost completely invisible.
  • More comfortable than braces.
  • More convenient access for daily oral hygiene.
  • Cost is usually about the same as braces for similar conditions.  There are several levels of Invisalign® treatment and cost depending on the number of aligners required to complete the treatment.

What to expect with Invisalign®        (Looks like a long road but really not that complicated)

  • Complimentary orthodontic exam in our office.
  • Determine that no dental care is needed before starting Invisalign®.  Need to check with your dentist.  If dental care is needed, it should be taken care of before starting Invisalign®
  • Records: (x-rays, photos and digital scan) made, reviewed and virtual treatment designed online by Dr. Bruno.
  • Treatment approved by you.  In-person or email review at your request.
  • Aligners ordered and appointment to deliver.  Determination of how long to use each aligners will be made at this time but may change throughout the treatment.
  • Attachments may be placed on the teeth.  These are small, inconspicuous tooth-colored shapes bonded to the teeth to act as handles that allow the aligners to act like braces.
  • Interproximal reduction, the slight narrowing of selected teeth, is often used to help correct crowding or allow the teeth to fit together correctly.
  • Refinement:  Once the initial set of aligners has accomplished what it can, there is often one or more refinement sets, of additional aligners, ordered to improve the final result.  There is usually no additional fee for these unless specified at the outset.
  • Retention:  Invisible retainers will be used to preserve the corrections.  They are usually used full time for a few months and then used only at night.

Suppose Invisalign® is not the best solution for my particular problem.  There are many choices.

  1. Don’t’ treat the problem.  Live with it.  This may or may not be appealing.
  2. Treat some of the problem, but possibly not all of the problem with Invisalign®.   Depending on your goals, this might be a possibility.  If we can make you look better without negative consequences, that might be an option.
  3. Treat the untreatable part of the problem with a short course of braces and finish with Invisalign.  This might add to the expense but can provide an acceptable solution.
  4. Treat the problem with braces.

Contrary to popular opinions, often expressed on social media, small children will not point at you and shriek in terror at the horror of you with braces. You will not be consigned to the geek team and ostracized by friends and family. You will simply look like someone who knows what they want and is doing what’s necessary to get it.Google “Celebrities with braces” or “Sports stars with braces” and you will see what we mean.
